When it comes to holiday treats the dozens of cookies, all that candy and delicious jams can get a little overwhelming. Wouldn’t you like to save a jar or two that doesn’t have to be consumed immediately so that you may savor it later and allow for recent happy memories that accompany the taste of a cookie or a jam to flood back in an instant? Isn’t that just a perfect idea for the post-holiday blues?
Homemade gifts in a jar are inexpensive and have that personal touch that holiday gifts seem to be missing nowadays. Here is the perfect recipe for cookies in a jar. Not only do they make for an adorable gift but these cranberry hooteycreeks are insanely delicious. I omitted nuts from the original recipe but you could add in about half a cup of walnuts of pecans (remember to ad a note for just in case the recipient has an allergy!)
- ½ cup + 2 tablespoon all-purpose flour
- ½ cup rolled oats
- ½ cup all-purpose flour
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ⅓ cup packed brown sugar
- ⅓ cup white sugar
- ½ cup dried cranberries
- ½ cup white chocolate chips
- ½ cup chopped pecans (optional)
- Layer the ingredients in a 1 quart or 1 liter jar, in the order listed.
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a cookie sheet or line with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, beat together ½ cup softened butter, 1 egg and 1 teaspoon of vanilla until fluffy. Add the entire jar of ingredients, and mix together by hand until well blended. Drop by heaping spoonfuls onto the prepared baking sheets.
- Bake for 8 to 10 minutes, or until edges start to brown. Cool on baking sheets, or remove to cool on wire racks.
