This post has taken a lot of effort. I baked two big batches of these delicious blondies in a week and had to stave off kitchen marauders; literally needing to hide three slices to photograph later and share the recipe.
There is no such thing as an Oreo overload, even though it seems I might be indulging the cookies. The list of ingredients calls for butter, cream cheese and Oreos. Let me try that again: butter… cream cheese… and Oreos. A magic combination! I took these for a pot luck dinner and the next day a couple of slices made for a perfect lunch box treat. Guaranteed to be wiped to the last crumb.
Tips on the recipe: The special bit about the recipe is that the cream cheese is not incorporated within the batter. Instead dollops of it is dropped on it over the Oreo cookies. Now I recommend being liberal while you’re pouring the cream cheese batter. The blondie batter could appear crumbly but don’t let that alarm you because once baked, it comes together quickly and forms a perfect crumbly envelope around the cookie and cream cheese. Don’t reduce the number of Oreos from the recommended amount. In fact, I ended up adding more to my next batch. You can’t be missing a bite without ’em Oreos.
Over to the recipe: Crumbly, buttery chocolate chip batter enveloping a luscious cream cheese filling and surprising you with whole Oreo cookies in every single bite.
- 2 sticks softened butter
- ¾ cups packed light brown sugar
- 1 cups granulated sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 2 cups chocolate chips
- 8 oz. cream cheese
- 2 tablespoon sugars
- 1-2 Tbsp. milk
- 24 Oreo cookies
- Heat oven to 350 degrees. Cream butter and sugars until well blended. Add eggs and vanilla and beat until combined.
- Add flour, salt, baking soda and chocolate chips; mix until just combined.
- Press half of dough into bottom of a greased 9×13 pan. Bake for 8-10 minutes, until slightly browned. While bars are baking, beat cream cheese with sugar. Add enough milk to make the mixture a spreadable consistency.
- Remove bars from oven; top with 24 Oreo cookies. Spread cream cheese mixture over Oreos. Top with remaining half of chocolate chip dough.
- Bake 25-30 minutes, or until bars are set. Cool before cutting.
Happy Baking!
I was a little disappointed by these. They looked delicious (Hello! An Oreo stuffed into a cookie bar?! Wow), but the taste fell short for me. I passed them out to friends and neighbors who also thought they were ‘just ok’. The tangy (almost savory) cream cheese filling just doesn’t go with these. Maybe a white chocolate or marshmallow filling would be better instead? There’s just something about biting into plain cream cheese that didn’t mix well with the chocolate chip cookie and Oreo part. Maybe sweetening up the cream cheese filling more would help?
The cookie bar part tasted alright, but it wasn’t amazing like I expected. The picture looked so tasty and wonderful, but after making them and tasting them and passing them out for others to try, I wouldn’t make this again. Sorry!
Sorry these didn’t turn out well for you. I’ve actually made this recipe a few times now and had fabulous and consistent results each time.
Was wondering if you spread the cream cheese all over the batter and it didn’t remain in chunks over the oreos. You could sweeten it a little more if you like. The cream cheese consistency should be such that it should spread all over the batter so that you don’t miss it in a single bite. You could also add a few more oreos that the recipe demands, place them closer. That way you ensure you don’t have pockets of cream cheese without oreos. Hope this helps.
Okay! So you weren’t kidding when you said these would be the best bars. These just came out of the oven an hour ago and they are gone. I sent you a picture in your email. these were just fantabulous. thanks for sharing such a wonderful recipe. i will be making these again for sure.
YAY! Just saw your picture Dana! They look fabulous. So glad it turned out well for you.
I can definitely see why you would have to hide these blondies – they look addicting! I still haven’t baked with Oreos but I keep hearing they’re great in brownies or blondies. They look delicious and your hard work has paid off – these are quite a hit!

Thank you so much for this recipe! It has become a staple in my baking. I recently made these for a family gathering and my cousin told me, “Oh my goodness. These are heaven in my mouth.” I also passed them around at school one day and now I have people paying me to make batches for them! I also love jazzing them up with some rainbow sprinkles and food coloring in the cream cheese. Sprinkles and food coloring just make everything better, doesn’t it? Thank you so much!
