If you’ve just tuned in, we’re in the midst of a quick bread series. The series started with coconut bread with a cream cheese frosting and we baked a Whole Wheat Pumpkin Spice Bread and Spiced Maple Banana Bread. Today, we’re baking a Rosemary Chocolate Chip Bread.
The original recipe is an Olive Oil Cake from Good to the Grain and it has been marginally adapted. There was an option of using spelt flour, which I substituted with part wheat flour and part rice flour. The pairing of rosemary and chocolate is unique, delicious and memorable.
Rosemary Chocolate Bread
Author: Adapted from Good to the Grain | 101 Cookbooks

- Add the milk and rosemary and mix again just to blend.
- Pour the wet ingredients over the dry, stirring gently to combine.
- Stir in the chocolate chips until evenly distributed.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until a skewer inserted in the middle of the loaf comes out clean.

Wow! I would have never thought to pair rosemary and chocolate! Very unique!
I desperately need some rosemary. :) Then I can totally make this! I never would have thought of putting rosemary and chocolate chips together. I really have to try this!
Beautiful! The rosemary spring looks so wonderful on top of the golden yellow loaf. I love the idea of mixing chocolate with fresh herbs.
I’ve never thought to combine rosemary and chocolate. That’s really cool!
I have never thought to pair rosemary and chocolate! Unique!
Love the idea of rosemary in this bread.. very unique. Can’t wait to make it.
Now that is a really inventive bread pairing rosemary and chocolate. Love it! And I love that it’s so quick too!
I love your quick bread week! What a unique combination…I bet it was delicious!
I. Love this piney herb and love the scent and flavor it infuses be it on meats or breads. But with chocolate chips? Hmmm what an interesting marriage. Would so love to have it for breakfast right now hihihi.
Marvelous! That flavor combination is so interesting.
I’m with Rosa on this one. The combination sounds lovely.
Instead of chocolate chips do you think roughly chopped chocolate would work too? I always worry that the small pieces just get destroyed. Or are you supposed to have all chocolate pieces the same size?
Hey S! Thanks for stopping by! Chocolate chunks would do to! But if you chop them too small then they might just melt and lose their shape so a medium size would be perfect. They should be more or less the same size. Exact would be just too much trouble.
The flavor combination is so unique, I want to make this just out of curiosity. I also think that the 3 flours would give this some wonderful texture. I have yet to make olive oil cake, but this intrigues more than that recipe. It looks very moist and delicious in the picture. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks Tina! You’re absolutely right! The original recipe called for spelt flour and I substituted that with a combination of whole wheat and rice flour which did add so much to the texture of the bread. I plan to give the spelt flour a chance the next time round.
I love the idea of using rosemary in something sweet. I added rosemary salt to a treacle tart recently but have never tried it with chocolate…am going to give this loaf a go! Looks like the olive oil keeps it beautifully moist. Another great recipe in this run of posts! :-)
Very interesting, I’ve certainly never had that flavor combination. The loaf looks gorgeous, I’d love to try this! :) I’m glad you;re picking some out-of-the-ordinary recipes here!
This is such an interesting combo! Looks amazing!
I am new here so have missed most of the bread series but will have to go back and check them out. This one looks very interesting – rosemary and chocolate, unique. Looks delicious.
Your photograph looks really pretty with the contrasting chocolate studded through a yellow cake. I haven’t tried rosemary with chocolate yet, but I made a very successful lavender and chocolate cake, so I imagine it would be on fairly similar lines.
No, no, no…I can’t believe it, rosemary in a chocolate bread? Give me some minutes to think about it. That combination is so interesting. I’m so curious…this is something I should try.
What a beautiful bread! I think it’s odd to have rosemary and choclate together, but I bet it tastes very good, sweet and savory, I love it! Very creative!!
Rosemary and Chocolate?! GENIUS! I’m always down to pairing two delicious ingredients that would not normally go together – it usually makes for a delicious treat! Thanks for sharing!
How interesting to combine the 2…sounds really creative and I will have to try it. I have never seen the two together
Wow, what a unique and intriguing recipe. A sweet and savory loaf indeed and it does look wonderful.
I’m a fiend for rosemary, and I bet that it adds something special to this quick bread!
Never heard of putting rosemary in a sweet bread, but it sure looks delicious and sounds interesting! :)
Wow – very unusual with the rosemary in there.
what a nice variation of an olive oil cake! I have to try this with your adjustments, thank so much for sharing this delicious chocolate chip bread!
What an interesting combination! This has got to be one of my favorite quickbreads in the series so far =)
U know I was under the impression that rosemary is meant only for meat and savory food. But once I used it in a pound cake and ever since then it became my fav herb for bread and cake.
This looks just lovely!
Chocolate and rosemary together, you are creative…
this sounds so good..
I have to try this recipe for sure, totally bookmarked.
A very unique and tempting combination of flavours. I definitely want to try too!
I’ve tried to imagine how the flavour of this combo must be like and it’s truly dreamy delicious :)

Never would have thought to put those 2 together, but tit sounds amazing!
I wouldn’t have thought rosemary and chocolate, but I have rarely used rosemary in baking! It looks so pretty and I’m sure it tastes marvelous. I’ll have to bookmark this for later because I have some rosemary laying around and want to use it in a baked good! Thanks for sharing :)
